An assessment of the impacts and sustainability of community development initiatives in Awgbu Town, Anambra State (2015-2023)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study assesses the impact and sustainability of the Awgbu community's overall development of Anambra State, how the community has benefitted from state government initiatives and the extent to which the community responds to government requests and initiatives from 2015 to 2023. Community Development (CD), Social Capital, and the Diffusion of Innovations theories are the underpinning theoretical framework of analysis used for the study. This paper adopted a descriptive survey research design. Primary and secondary sources of data collection were employed. This paper targeted the entire population of Awgbu town, thus purposive random sampling technique and Slovin’s sample determination formula were used i.e. 400 respondents were targeted as the sample size, while 286 returned questionnaires were used for the data analysis. The data collected were presented on Logical Data Framework (LDF) and analyzed using a quantitative method of statistical data analysis of frequency table and weighted mean. The findings reveal that the Awgbu community has made significant contributions to the development of Anambra State. The community has actively responded to government calls, participating in the Choose Your Project Initiative (CYPI). However, the study finds that poor funding, poor monitoring, leadership crises among others are the challenges hindering the community's progress.
