Challenges in adopting dalcroze pedagogy in public primary schools in Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Abstract
The Dalcroze pedagogy of teaching music is the most common and widely accepted method of teaching children’s music all over the world. Countries that embrace these methods have their children doing well academically, in industry and in leadership and us, as Africans and Nigerians need to learn from these useful instructions and domesticate it as early as possible. The obliviousness that resides in our educational system with regards to music education must be a thing of the past since we are doing much harm to our children in shared ignorance even as we discriminate the teaching of the subject music. The research lasted for eight (8) weeks and four primary schools were visited twice each week. It reviewed the fundamentals of teaching music education and the theories of Dalcroze. The qualitative means were used in data collection and the instruments were observation and interviews. The data was discussed and conclusions were that private schools were doing better in applying such theories in lesson delivery and this put their children to a lead. Whiles the State Primary Schools train larger number of students’ population.
