Representation of Culture in ELT Textbooks: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

The main objective of this qualitative research is to explore commodiously the values of the culture that are: creativity, discipline, diversity, hard-working, mutual help, fighting spirit, equality, beauty, generosity, alignment, honesty, independence, prestige, individuality, caring, proud and belief in course books of English taught in the  Allied schools – a project of Punjab Group of Colleges. The aim and objective of the study are to explore cultural values in the English language the textbooks taught in Pakistani schools. The investigator used the content inquiry method to analyze data thoroughly, explain about the values of a culture. The sample of the study is Oxford Progressive for the grade 6th, 7th, and 8th. The data will be collected from the grade 6th, 7th, and 8th The logic behind the selection of students at the middle level because they are easily overwhelmed by negative impressions of the foreign culture. The results of the research will be effectiven developing cross-cultural communication, at the same; the present investigation will save English language learners the negative influence of other cultures.
